Thanksgiving and Buy Nothing Day! November 25 2022
Come along with Waldorf Publications on a determined stand against the frenzy of “Black Friday”!
Join us once again for BUY NOTHING FRIDAY! Follow the invitation to make things with your family, play a game or two, recite a poem together, sing a song, relax, and enjoy this day, along with Thanksgiving Day, when your family and friends can simply think of each other and not of purchasing, discounts, competing against others for the best prices, and gazing at the computer. Waldorf Publications, led by loyal associate, Sarah D., will give you wonderful other things to think about!!
Thanksgiving is such a fine holiday, without pressure beyond good food and good friends and family. The spirit of the day is inspiring, asking us to pause to generate a deep feeling of gratitude. Pause is an important thought in that last sentence, to call to stillness all the hectic realities of our “normal” day-to-day activities; work, schedules, study, and plans. How extraordinary: to plan to do no more than be still, play, eat leftovers, make turkey soup, and enjoy each other and ourselves.
The mood of Thanksgiving is a rare one to find, filled with humility and acceptance. With so much suffering in our world, it is like a living prayer to remember those qualities and gifts we possess (whatever these may be) that lift us. Sustaining that mood for more than a single day, or a single meal is a fine gift to the whole world of something more than the materialistic, something along the lines of love! The humility of gratitude allows this quality of love to enter into our hearts.
May there be love and joy in all your homes this Thanksgiving; and may the day after Thanksgiving Day be filled with the warmth of that love and joy. This provides a nourishing feast for the heart and soul.
