Two Births, One Light: Rediscovering the Christ Story March 21 2026
The King Child and the Shepherd Child
by Jakob Streit

The New Testament has two distinct accounts of the birth of the child “Jesus”. In the Gospel of Luke, angels appear to shepherds and call them to witness the newborn child in a stall in Bethlehem. We imagine that these shepherds bring gifts of wool, sheep’s milk, and bread.
The other telling of the story is by the evangelist, Matthew. The three Magi are healers, astronomers, and wise elders from their communities in the Far East. They bring gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh incense. They take long months, following the star they saw in the sky, understanding as mystics and astronomers that this star signals an important shift for the Earth and the Heavens.

Jakob Streit’s masterful storytelling weaves the wonder of these two intertwined stories, elucidating the mission of love for all humankind through many sacrifices. Like the Buddha, Isis-Osiris, Zarathustra, Moses, The White Buffalo Calf Woman, Confucius, Rama, Krishna, Lao Tzu, Quetzalcōātl, Hiawatha, Baldur, Hercules, and others who preceded Jesus, and those who have come after Him, they bring capacities and possibilities to all human beings that could not be developed easily on our own.
These stories enhance the remarkable quality of the two Jesus children and delight the young (and old) with tales and legends long forgotten. At this time of Passover, Ein, Easter, and the Spring Equinox, it’s important to have stories that explain why it is we all celebrate!
